Green purslane is native to tropical South America and was introduced to Malaysia, Indonesia (e.g. Sumatra, Java), Papua New Guinea and elsewhere in Southeast Asia. A. ficoidea may be useful as an antiviral agent. Its dense growth makes it suitable for protecting soil from erosion. Usually planted in the yard as an ornamental plant.
