    Originates from the East Indies, and has been widely distributed in tropical Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, China. This species has also been introduced to many other tropical countries, and in Jamaica it is considered a weed. This plant has been widely cultivated as an ornamental plant because it has unique and attractive leaf shapes that look like butterflies.
