Luyah-luyahan or G. campsophylla is a plant from the Zingiberaceae family which is endemic and originates from the Philippines. This small clumping species is known as a medicinal plant. Where, G. campsophylla is believed by local people to have good health benefits, and has been used to treat various complaints, including curing coughs and colds. Apart from that, the unique shape of the flowers makes this plant widely planted as an ornamental plant.

Habitat of G. campsophylla, terrestrial in shady dipterocarp forest areas with a humid environment. It is an understory with grasses and Araceae species. This species is also found growing mostly near rivers at an altitude of between 1,300 to 1,400 m above sea level.

  • Leaves lanceolate to elliptical to ovate, glabrous, sessile, 23 long \u2013 30 cm, width 5 \u2013 7 cm. The tip or top of the leaf is tapered (acuminate) to cuspidate, the base or base of the leaf is round, the adaxial surface is light green to dark green, the abaxial surface is whitish, the leaf edge is flat towards the top and red to maroon towards the base of the leaf.
  • Flowers have a flower lip (labellum) triangular, 2 lobes and bracteoles white, caducous (decayed or deciduous) white to bright green, tubular, 3 ends/toothed white with yellow stripes partially fused with tubular flowers and lateral staminodes attached below. Slender stamens with creamy yellow anthers and no spurs (ovaries) round, ovate, smooth. Has a terminal inflorescence.
  • Fruit capsule, round to oval in shape, grooved, greenish in color, smooth surface, about 1 - 1.3 cm long.
