Baby jump up is a native plant from the southern United States to Argentina but has been recorded as naturalized in Africa, India, Indonesia (Java), Japan and Taiwan. This plant is usually a weed and is looked down upon by society. But it turns out that the baby jump up plant has medicinal properties which are traditionally used to heal all types of wounds. This was told by a traditional herbalist "in the village of San Miguel Regla, municipality of Huasca de Ocampo, Hidalgo, Mexico where this plant is known as Metatera."

Corolla has 2 lips, yellow with purple stripe on upper lip, slightly longer than upper lip 4, anthers branched , 1.3 mm long, curved at the apex.
Fruit is a narrow ellipsoid capsule, 2 - stemmed, glabrous, 5 - 6 mm long, breaks locally and septically from the apex, calyx accrescent, the outer sepals become 9 mm long and 5 mm wide.
Seeds numerous, round with a yellow or greenish brown color, oval with a blunt or truncated apex and a subblunt base, measuring 0.8 mm long.
