Tetepok flowers are widespread in Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Australia and the Pacific Islands. This plant is known in English as "water snowflake" because its white flowers resemble "snow flakes" in a pond. Because of its uniqueness, in 2011 this flower was designated as one of the national puspa on National Puspa and Animal Love Day. This plant is often planted in ponds and swampy areas as an ornamental plant. This plant can also be used as a vegetable, where the leaves, young stems, flower buds and fruit can be cooked and consumed. This aquatic plant is also used as a traditional medicine in several countries, where a paste of the leaves is rubbed on the forehead to relieve headaches and a decoction of the plant is drunk to cure fever and dysentery.Agroecology of Nymphoides indica
Tetepok flowers grow in shallow, stagnant waters, ponds, flooded rice fields and lake shores, up to an altitude of 1,900 m. This plant likes areas in full sun but is tolerant of partial shade. Plants grow best when their roots are submerged in 30-60 cm of water.
