This species is generally planted by people as an ornamental plant both indoors and outdoors. Golden flowers can be found growing in rainforests, at altitudes ranging from 150 to 700 m above sea level. This species is best grown in moderately rough, fertile, consistently moist but well-drained soil, in full sun in tropical areas, or partial shade. The stamens are inserted at the base of the corolla tube, the hispidulous filaments. The inflorescence consists of several flowers surrounded by a dense cluster of yellow, hair-like bracts and sepals. These tubular flowers last only a few days, but the yellow hair-like bracts remain fresh for weeks.
Fruit capsule, glabrous, containing only a few seeds, opens forcefully by explosive dehiscence.
Seeds are lenticular, reticulate with microgranules when it's not yet ripe.
