This plant is widely distributed in subtropical and tropical areas. It is thought that this species is native to Florida and Texas. Mauve is a plant that has medicinal properties and has been used in several countries. In Nigeria, it is used as a traditional medicine to treat diarrhea. In Hawaii, it is locally used like the anti-inflammatory drug aspirin. Apart from that, the leaves can be consumed as a vegetable and the stems as a substitute for toothbrushes.
