Angel fan flowers originate from Mexico, North America. In Guyana this plant is used to cure worm infections that cause crooked legs, in Suriname the plant is a remedy for torn soles of the feet (ebesere). Xiphidium caeruleum has beautiful flowers so it is cultivated in several neotropical countries as an ornamental plant.

This plant is found growing at an altitude of 0 - 2,000 m above sea level. Easily adaptable to a very wide range of conditions, whether in shaded, partially shaded or open areas. Likes damp soil and is not tolerant of waterlogged conditions.
Morphology of Xiphidium caeruleum

• Cylindrical rhizomes, creeping in the soil, white to brownish red inside, 4-20 cm long, diameter\u00a01 cm.
• Fibrous roots.
